An area not included in city plans, located on Tersanas in Akrotiri Chania. The 3.5-acre field is in the immediate vicinity of the sea. The main residence of 121 sq.m. is centrally located and built in 1963 as a holiday home. In 1981, an addition was made by extension to add a bedroom and a small bathroom. In 2013, complete renovation works were carried out, which in addition to the modification of the internal arrangement provided for the replacement of the tiled roof, the addition of external thermal insulation and the replacement of frames, in order for the building to be sustainably upgraded.
Before the renovation the kitchen and the living room were two different spaces while the two bedrooms shared a common bathroom. By removing the runway from center of the residence and creating an opening, a private bathroom emerged in the master bedroom and the kitchen was integrated with the living room. In place of a tank of water from reinforced concrete, a second communal bath was created suitable for the disabled. Some openings were enlarged in order to enhance the sea view and the direct relationship to the surrounding area.
The mosaic tile floors were also preserved and on the surfaces, where necessary, white and black marbles were used to complement the floor. On the semi-outdoor spaces’ false ceilings, the kitchen, the living room and the main bedroom, 4-6mm diameter bamboo was used. All existing stairs were removed in order to ensure a smooth, restful and safe movement for disabled people and children.
